LITTLE NINJA, BIG MAKEOVER

Cheap fun just got a shot in the arm in the form of a majorly redone 2008 Ninja 250R. The dohc parallel-Twin has massaged intake and exhaust ports, a hotter set of cams and a new exhaust system (with dual catalyzers) to boost low- to middle-rpm power, while the bodywork is a major departure for the usually bland, often-dated offerings in the entry-level market. Other mechanical refinements include an automatic cam-chain tensioner (similar to what is used on the KX45OF motocrosser) and a quieter air box. A new 37mm fork and larger 17-inch wheels shod with lower-profile, sport-oriented rubher improve han dhng, while petal discs with a larger 290mm front improve braking on the light weight, $3499 package.
