NEW IDEAS

Sportbike Components

To finish up front, you first have to finish. That’s why Attack Performance has engineered its clip-on handlebars, adjustable-offset tripleclamps, foot controls, rearstand lift mounts and fiberglass bodywork to withstand high-speed, end-over-end racetrack tumbles. The cleated footpegs, for example, are designed to snap off at their midpoint, far away from the 7075 T6 aluminum-alloy mounting brackets, leaving solid purchase for the rider’s boots. Machined from-aluminum-billet handlebar clamps feature clamshell-style fixtures, easing installation and removal. Race bodywork is hand-laminated using multiple layers of lightweight, woven fiberglass and aircraft-grade epoxy resin for a high strength-to-weight ratio and simple repairs. MSRP for a complete rearstand lift mount kit for a 2011 Kawasaki ZX-10R (shown) is $159.98.

Difference being, the more expensive of the two units includes a two-way pager with a working range of up to a half-mile. So, regardless of where you are, indoors or out, you remain in constant contact with your prized machine.

The Man Who Would Stop at Nothing

M elissa Holbrook Pierson, author of the The Perfect Vehicle, has written a new book: The Man Who Would Stop at Nothing: Long Distance Motorcycling’s Endless Road ($24.95). The story follows John Ryan, who combined his “natural lack of circadian rhythm, minimal need for sleep under duress and love of motorcycling" to complete a number of unprecedented recordsetting rides, including, most notably, one from the North Shore of Alaska to Key West, Florida, in just 86 hours and 31 minutes.

When It Pours Waterproof Sleeves

Necessity is the mother of invention, right? Martin Iwanowicz wanted to carry his pricey electronic gadgets on his motorcycle, but he didn’t want to risk losing important data and/or function to the ravages of inclement weather. So, he created When It Pours ($4.99 to $9.99), lightweight, packable, reusable and, most importantly, waterproof sleeves sized for smart phones, e-readers, tablets and laptop computers. The non-padded sleeves are coated to resist static electricity and chemicals. U

ProL2K Back Protector

orcefield, the British sports safety equipment company known for a wide variety of body armor, has introduced the ProL2K back protector, an evolution of its highly regarded ProL2. The “K” stands for Kevlar, which is now used in the protector’s construction for added strength and durability. There also are a few changes in the j/Z\ shape of the new protector and the materials used in certain parts of its fabrication. Key component of the ProL2K is NitrexEvo, a triangular shock-absorbing material that allows the protector to be soft, flexible and comfortable while providing a high level of impact protection; in the CE Level 2 test for motorcyclist’s protective clothing, the ProL2K exceeded the highest standards. Small ventilation holes in the impact-absorbing materials let the protector breathe well, and because NitrexEvo is a rubber-like material, the ProL2K suffers no loss of protective performance, even after multiple impacts. Available for $155 in S, M and L sizes.
