READY-TO-RACE SUPERMOTOS

NO BIKE-MAKER HAS embraced supermoto with greater

enthusiasm than KTM. For 2004, the Austrian company will offer no fewer than six models, the unveiling for which took place last November in conjunction with the AMA Red Bull

Supermoto-aGo-Go National Championship finale in Las Vegas.

For street riders, the 625 SMC ($6298) is the only way to

go-literally. The LC4-based machine is equipped with electric and kick starting, a five-speed transmission and an on-board lap-timer. Based on the 450/525 SX motocrossers, the 450 SMC ($7098) and 525 SMC ($7298) come with fourspeed gearboxes, full-travel suspension, two sets of

wheels-a 21-inch front/19-inch rear combination for MX, and a pair of 17-inchers for supermoto-and four-piston Brembo front brake calipers with oversized Braking rotors.

Moving up the ladder to the supermoto-

models, the 450 SMR ($7298) and 525 SMR ($7498) feature six-speed transmissions, shortened/revalved suspension, Berringer six-piston brakes mated to 310mm Braking rotors, and Dunlop slicks. In keeping with KTM’s “Ready to Race” motto, the SMRs are said to be competitive right out of the box.

Bringing up the rear, if only on paper, the 660 SMS Factory Replica ($12,998) is a no-holds-barred racer available only by special order. With these KTMs, the future of super-
