BRITISH BIKE SPECIALISTS

I was pleased with the article “British Spoken Here” in your December 1976 issue. I have done business with several of the dealerships listed and found them to be extremely helpful. Here are some others I have been well satisfied with:

Suzuki of Albertville, Rt. 5, Albertville, Ala. 35950 (for Triumph and BSA).

Triumph of Wellesley, Inc., 184 Worcester St., Wellesley Hills, Mass. 02181.

Justice Cycle Sales, 305 S. Churst St., Hendersonville, N. Carolina 28739 (for BSA).

Nick Jordan Gadsden, Ala.

I never dreamed there were so many hard-core British cycle fans in this country! I opened my business in July 1976 and watched it skyrocket out of sight. 1 started my business out of need. I needed a part for an AJS and could not find parts. I decided then and there to offer a quality operation to British cycle enthusiasts. I bought out several dealers and my business took off.

I deal mainly in new/old stock parts but will sell good quality used parts when they are all that is available. No part is too small or obscure. If I cannot get the part, I can give my customers names of shops that perhaps can be of help.

I carry parts for almost every major English brand of bike and specialize in AJS, both the four-stroke and two-stroke machines, BSA Gold Stars, Cotton and Norton. I have a very complete decal selection.

I am mail order only to help keep prices down to a reasonable level. As you said in your article, I am in business for a profit, but mainly because it is so damn much fun.

The following are my choices for parts for British bikes:

John Palfreymans Motorcycles Unlimited. 1002 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica, Calif. 90405 (213) 393-1215. An all-around excellent shop, good work and lots of new and used parts plus the best advice in town on BSA and Triumph.

Casey’s Cycle Repair. 10249 San Fernando Rd., Pacoima, Calif. 91331 (213) 899-9519. Good parts supply (factory authorized BSA parts) and good advice from Casey oi BSA, Triumph and Harley.

Jack Hateley Enterprises, 18552 Partheni?, Northri'dge, Calif. 91324 (213) 8868432. Best choice for service work, as well . as engine modifications. If you want your Triumph to go fast, this is the place.

These are one-man shops and the owners generally have time to talk to you, which is very important to me.

I’d like my Triumph dealership to be added to your list. At Triumph of Oklahoma City we sell all brands of used bikes and new Triumphs, Nortons, Ossas and Pentons. We have a very large inventory of new parts for all the bikes we sell new as well as for BSA.

We have been buying wrecks, salvage motors and other dealer inventories for years and have tons of good used parts just waiting to be sent out anywhere in the continental USA through our mail-order business.

I would like to mention another business dealing in British bike parts. Nicholson Brothers Ltd., Box 5030, Saskatoon, Sask., Canada S7K 4E3. Nicholson Brothers has an excellent supply of early Triumph and BSA parts and has been very helpful to me.

Also. Andy Pele Motorcycle Sales, 16146 Eureka Rd., Southgate, Mich. 48192. Andy has a good supply of BSA parts and I have had excellent service from him.

Some of your readers might be interested in knowing of our club, BSA Gold Star Owners Club. It is open to all owners of BSA Gold Stars or people who have an interest in the Goldie. For more information, write to me.

The Nicholson Brothers shop has been recommended by more than one of our readers.

Please include Frank Marmo Triumph Cycle Shop, 100 E. Railway Ave., Paterson, New Jersey 07503 on your list of dependable British bike dealers. He is reputed as one of the most knowledgeable and certainly dependable Triumph dealers on the east coast.

MORE ON MOPEDS

As a mopeder I’d like to comment on your December 1976 “Round Up” item on mopeds. The viewpoint seems to be that mopeds are a passing fad and after a couple of years a moped purchaser may find it difficult to get parts. No one in the marketing area is ever certain as to what the public will buy and continue to buy. The moped, however, does meet a great need for low cost personal transportation and wide use of the 150-miles-per-gallon moped could substantially reduce gasoline consumption.

Continued from page 13

Your article said the dealers “will have no system of better models with which to upgrade the first-time buyer.” Actually, major moped manufacturers in Europe do sell multi-speed higher horsepower (2-3 bp) models. The moped laws here could be modified so a bicycle-moped dealer could sell the multi-speed models without having to obtain a motor vehicle dealer’s license.

Some of your readers may be interested to know that with the help of my mimeograph machine I publish a small book called Robert’s Moped Manual. It is available for $ l postpaid.

KEEP IT CLEAN

I dirt ride a few miles north of Mojave. Motorcycle riders can ride in this area on the condition that they keep it clean and pick up after themselves. Most people who know about this condition do keep the area clean.

There are some riders, however, who leave their camps looking like a disaster. Trash and garbage all over. If this does not stop, the area will be restricted from motorcycles altogether.

Perhaps if you print this many riders will see it and keep Mojave and other areas clean.

SUGGESTIONS PAY OFF

I recently purchased a Clymer repair manual for my Ducati 250. In attempting to use the manual, I found that it lacked sufficient information to accomplish the repairs I wished to perform.

I decided to write the publisher and tell him that I wanted my money back and the reasons why.

Imagine my surprise when I received an $80 reward check for my suggestions, which he stated would be incorporated in the next publication. I thought you would be interested to know when someone works for the motorcyclist instead of against him.
