ONE FOR OFF THE ROAD
HONDA OF MICHIANA converted a Honda 160 for scrambling and built a near-custom bike in the process. A Super-90 front end, plus a Bates racing seat, ASC TT-pattern exhaust pipes, and Bates folding footpegs were among the visible alterations. Internally, a Harman & Collins camshaft came first, followed by Webco valve springs and some attention to the intake and exhaust ports, all of which was performed on the Honda 160 engine, and on a CB-125 cylinder barrel and pistons as well so the machine could run in two classes.
Butts provided the fiberglass fuel tank; it and the rest of the bike were then painted in green and silver metalflake by "Hoffy," of Honda Michiana. Original weight of 282 pounds was reduced to a mere 197. The bike is to be ridden by Ray Schuler in midwestern scrambles events this season. If it goes and handles as well as it looks, success seems just around the corner.
