MV Agusta's F3 triples are very closely related: The 675 and 800 share identical 79mm bores, the latter getting stroked to 54.3 from 45.9mm.

The 800 is more refined than the last 675 we sampled.

MV is making progress with its Eldor enginemanagement system, though there is still room for improvement. Thetorquey engine turned Chuckwalla Valley Raceway into a two-gear track, while the quicksteering chassis and excellent Brembo brakes highlighted the racy package.

MV expects to sell 10,000 units in 2014 (up 33 percent). Added capital will further accelerate the R&D necessary tomix it up with Europe's established elite.Blake Conner
