Mission Accomplished: Rapp Wins at Laguna

LAST JULY AT MAZDA RACEWAY LAGUNA SECA, STEVE RAPP used his professional skills and the well-developed Mission R to smoke the TTXGP/FIM e-Power electric-bike field, winning the eight-lap race by 39 seconds. In doing so, he turned lap times comparable to those of the frontrunners in AMA Pro SuperSport, another of the MotoGP weekend’s support events. “I was drawn to the bike’s looks,” said Rapp, who also finished well up in the order this season in American SuperBike and Vance & Hines XR1200, “but I didn’t think it was going to be as much fun to ride as it was.” With its umpteen-dollar Öhlins fork, trellis frame and radial-mount Brembos, the bike was “faster than ever, so linear and smooth.” Mission Motors will now focus on commercializing its EV technology. —Matthew Miles
