Hands-free security

RIDING A MOTORCYCLE IS A EUPHORIC, liberating experience. For too many people, however, that euphoria is replaced by anger, frustration and helplessness when they return to the spot where they parked their bike only to discover it has been stolen.

Digital Guard Dawg is a new security product that offers automatic, hands-free operation similar to recent offerings from Harley-Davidson and Kawasaki. At the heart of the keyless system is a proven technology known as RFID (radio frequency identification device). Examples include pet “chipping” to prevent loss or theft, employee ID badges, gas-station “speed” passes and push-button starting in high-end automobiles.

DGD’s system consists of two parts: a Smart Relay and a Dawg Tag. The relay replaces your bike’s starter relay and communicates with the Dawg Tag carried in your pocket. The two components work as a team; if the Smart Relay does not sense the presence of the Dawg Tag, you cannot crank the starter.

DGD is designed to fit a wide variety of motorcycles as well as hand-built customs, so installation will vary from bike to bike. That said, installing and setting

up the system is so simple just about anyone can do it. First, locate and remove your starter relay, then replace it with the Smart Relay and connect the black wire to the positive battery terminal. With the ignition in the off position, place the Dawg Tag next to the relay, wait three minutes, depress the button on the Dawg Tag and start your bike as you normally would. It’s that easy. The instructions explain how to fine-tune operating distance; 10 feet is optimal.

If you own multiple motorcycles, DGD can supply additional relays set to communicate with a single Dawg Tag. DGD also offers a keyless system that eliminates the stock ignition switch.

Simple and effective. Euphoria restored.□
