NEW SENNA TRIBUTE
If the F4 1000 Tamburini wasn’t enough, MV Agusta now has the limited-production Senna 1000 with some equally trick but different fancy bits. “This is just what the factory did with the 2002 Senna F4 750, using the model to showcase the newest tech that will trickle down to other models," said an MV spokesman. Altered valvegear, internal engine modifications and new WeberMarelli 5SM EFI yield a claimed output of 174 horsepower, up 1 from the Tamburini we recently tested (October, 2005); the changes are said to eliminate the need for TSS, the variable intakelength system. Suspension is via a 50mm Marzocchi RAC fork with radial mount calipers and the same Sachs shock used on the Tamburini. Only 300 Sennas will be produced and 65 will come Stateside at an MSRP of $29,995, a relative bargain compared to the Tamburini’s $42,695.
LAGUNA SECA STEPS UP
When factory Honda rider Nicky Hayden and the rest of the MotoGP establishment arrives at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca this coming July 21 -23 for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix, they will be greeted by nearly $7 million in circuit upgrades, including new pavement and additional runoff at high-speed Turn 1. The latter change required removal of a portion of the adjoining hillside and the former media center that sat atop it. Additional runoff will also be added at Turns 3,4, 6 and 7. The 2005 event drew a weekend attendance of 153,653, the largest crowd in track history. For ticket information, go to www.lagunaseca.com.
CONFEDERATE HEADS NORTH
Confederate Motorcycles’ New Orleans headquarters were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina last August, and as a result, the company has elected to relocate to Birmingham, Alabama. “The company’s management decided to take advantage of the unfortunate situation and rethink the company’s future, as well as its growth plans,” read a release. Production of the Hellcat and Wraith was expected to resume by spring.
