HERE’S THE CONCEPT BEHIND THE latest addition to the Griot’s Garage family of cleaning products: You supply the bucket, water and elbow grease; the new Motorcycle Care Kit provides everything else.

With one notable exception, we do mean everything. There’s a mild degreaser, wheel cleaner, bike wash and sponge, synthetic chamois, liquid wax, chrome polish, cotton buffing cloths, and enough brushes and swabs for even the most fastidious detailer. If you’re really into it, you’ll appreciate the three-finger sponge mits, great for cast wheels, and the paint-cleaning clay, which removes minute impurities prior to waxing.

For between-wash touch-ups, there’s a mini-duster and 35 ounces of sprayon/wipe-off Speed Shine. We really liked the handy Speed Shine Wipes in pop-up towelette form.

Chinks in the kit’s armor? While

nifty little Rubber & Vinyl Dressing Pop Swabs are included for detailing in tight areas, there is no spray-on dressing for tires. Perhaps the company’s liability lawyers had visions of riders skating into the shrubbery on slickened treads? Also, while the kit includes metal-polishing strips (good for round items like spokes, fork tubes, etc.), these don’t work well for large areas like the alloy primary covers on older Britbikes. Maybe a “Classic Edition” kit with flat polishing pads and a wire-wheel brush is in order?
