WORKS STANDS FS200A FRONT STAND
CW EVALUATION
Wheel changes made easy
IT’S A FACT OF LIFE THAT SOMETIMES the simplest tools are the most satisfying. A good, solid front work stand fits into this category, and really comes in handy for any work involving the removal of a front wheel. It’s also a useful item just to have around to ease clean-up chores.
We’ve found one we like a lot. Priced at $130 from Works Stands (945 Camelot,
Crystal Lake, IL 60014; 708/661-8952), it’s made of eighth-inch-wall, TIG-welded, box-section aluminum tubing and is suitable for use on most motorcycles.
Pleasing aspects of the FS200A include its light weight and the quality of workmanship. Welds are smooth and even; there are
no rough edges anywhere; the rollers are high-quality items; and the lightgray finish is smooth and glossy. The stand is meant for use on motorcycles with fork-leg bottoms that are recessed-most current bikes, in other words. Starting with the bike on its centerstand, a swingarm stand or
held straight up by a helper, the pins at the top of the FS200A’s tower are inserted into those recesses, the stand’s lever-handle is depressed, and presto, your bike is up on jacks.
We found a few bikes the stand wouldn’t work with. These were either pure dirtbikes, or older streetbikes. We didn’t find, in our wellstocked garage, any modern sportbike the stand couldn’t be fitted to. This product is a winner, and might just be the last stand you’ll need, making you just like General George A. Custer. □
