COME TO CONNECTICUT

Mark the first weekend in May on your calendar as the date of the eighth-annual Connecticut SuperRide. Based at the Sunrise Resort in Moodus, the yearly event is a rite of spring, with many frostbitten New Englanders emerging from hibernation to enjoy their first rides of the season. Attendees can participate in a charity poker run, field events or guided tours; sample demo bikes from Buell, Honda, Triumph and Yamaha; stroll through some 250 vendor booths; take in the Dunlop Malcolm Forbes Memorial Bike Show; listen to live music from rock and country bands; or gorge themselves at the American Motorcycle Institute’s all-you-can-eat buffet. For more information, call the SuperRideLine at 860/285-8948.

DOUBLE-R HONORED

Honda’s CBR900RR was named one of the “Best New Products” of 1996 by BusinessWeek magazine. Under the headline “Cushy For The Tush,” the publication lauded the refdesigned CBR for “maintaining its sporting edge while improving its ergonomics,” adding that “the greater comfort is especially noticeable on long, twisty roads.” We here at CW couldn’t have said it better; in fact, we said something very similar when we named the CBR the Best Open Streetbike in last year’s “Ten Best Bikes” competition.

GET YOUR KICKS...

The 1997 edition of the Motorcycle Guide to Route 66 is now available. Additions to the revamped booklet include a detailed, turn-byturn description of the old highway, “diaries” penned by three experienced Route 66 riders, listings of biker-friendly campgrounds and motels, plus a guide to motorcycle-related laws in the eight states the route intersects. Returning features include numerous city maps and tourist attractions. For more information, contact HHJM, Inc., 2024 Heatherbrook Dr., Grapevine, TX 76051;800/994-8251.

DB2, TAKE 2

Due to popular demand, Bimota has decided to produce one last, limitededition run of its best-selling DB2. Just 100 of the striking red-and-white, Ducati 900SS-powered machines will be built, each sporting a special plate engraved with the phrase Series Finale. Want one? You’d better hurry; it may already be too late.

RED, WHITE AND BLUEBOOK

Finally, there’s a “bluebook” aimed at American motorcycle enthusiasts. Starting with the January through April, 1997, issue, the AMA Official Motorcycle Value Guide will be available to the buying public, instead of just businesses. Inside, you’ll find current average retail, wholesale and trade-in prices for most streetbikes, dirtbikes, ATVs, personal watercraft and snowmobiles manufactured since 1981. To get your copy, check your local bookstore or send $9.95 (plus $3 shipping) to AMA Motorcycle Value Guide, PO. Box 3190, Laurel, MD 20709; 800/972-5312.

VULCANS, UNITE

Do you have a pet humanoid with pointy ears and a penchant for mind melds? Or are you the proud owner of a Kawasaki cruiser? If you answered yes to either question, then get in touch with Richard DiLorenzo (1189 Snowden Ave., Deltona, FL 32725; 407/574-0527), who’s looking to form a Vulcan Owners Club. Better yet, drop him a line telling him how you acquired your Vulcan and he’ll include your story in the club newsletter. Live long and prosper.

1-2-3-SCORE!

Did you enjoy reading the “1-2-3-4” feature in CIMs August, 1996, issue? You’re not alone. Judges at the 1996 International Automotive Media Conference cited that story-which recounted a trip through Arizona’s Navajo Indian country on a quartet of cruisers powered by one-, two-, threeand fourcylinder engines—in awarding author Jon F. Thompson the coveted Moto Award for outstanding magazine feature stories. And to think we knew him when...
