SUPER-SCOOTER WARS HEAT UP

YAMAHA IS COMING hard after Honda's long-running Helix with a 250cc scooter of its own.

Called the YP250 Majesty, it's powered by a liquid-cooled, two-valve, four-stroke Single driving through a fully automatic V-belt transmission.

Features include an overstuffed, two-tier scat complete with adjustable rider backrest, “heavy-duty” telescopic fork, adjustable rear suspension, front disc brake and three separate storage areas, including an under-scat compartment large enough to accommodate two helmets.

U.S. Yamaha officials say the Majesty would cost more than $5000, too expensive for American tastes, so it won’t be sold here. In other markets, however, the super-scooter wars may already be heating up. A spy illustration is currently circulating in the Japanese moto-press depicting a 400cc Honda Helix.
