ZACH ATTACK
Once again, America has a young contender to cheer for in the FIM World Championship motocross series. Britishbased team Utag Yamaha has signed 18-year-old Zach Osborne to ride its YZ250F in next year’s MX2 campaign. The Abingdon, Virginia, native impressed the team after strong results last summer in Belgium and the Czech Republic and especially in Ireland where he won moto one and took eighth overall. “We had already spoken with Zach about ’09, and his win in Ireland showed his commitment to us. The effort we’ve made in supporting him should hopefully lead to a promising full attempt next season,” said team principal Steve Dixon. Go red, white and blue!
INK UP
The image of the tattooed biker is one of the most common motorcycle stereotypes, one that many riders have been trying to escape for decades. But the truth of the matter is that tattoos and motorcycles go together like bread and butter. You don’t have to be the chopper-straddling patriarch of a dysfunctional family of bike builders to get tattooed. Freestyle motocross star Carey Hart was forced to call competitive riding quits back in 2003. Hart was the first rider everto land a backflip in competition, and his other love, tattoos, inspired him to open Hart & Huntington Tattoo at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. His new book, titled Inked, is a must for any tattoo fan. More than 70 portraits of human canvases and their stories take you into a world beyond biker clichés.
