1995 HUSQVARNAS: NEW ITALIAN ROOST
ROUNDUP
HAVING SAVORED THE success of Jacky Martens’ 1993 500cc Motocross World Championship aboard its 610 Thumper, Husqvarna aims to make its 1995 I25cc twostrokes into championship-caliber mounts
The WXC125 and the cnduro-variant WXE each get a new engine and frame. The powerplant is a case-reed design developed with input from Cagiva’s roadracing team, with a power curve said to be wider and stronger than before. A new port configuration benefits from a rotary exhaust valve that controls all three exhaust ports. There’s more durability, thanks to larger crankshaft bearings, a stronger connecting rod and better cooling, says Husqvarna.
The entire two-stroke line gets the new frame, which has reinforcements in the head stay and swingarm areas that reportedly reduce flex. Husky says its new bike is also lighter and slimmer than its predecessor.
Showa will supply the suspension again in '95. Brakes are now Brembos that allow pad replacement without removing the caliper. A twin-piston caliper in front and a single-piston caliper at the rear replace last year’s Nissan units. Altered plastic and graphics keep the styling current.
Four-stroke fans have by no means been forgotten. Motor changes for the 350 and 610 models include a new digital ignition, improved cylinder-head castings with new port designs, magnesium crankcases with a non-oxidizing finish and a new endless cam chain. The 610 also has larger-diameter intake and exhaust valves. Both bikes get minor frame reinforcements, the new Brembos and revised plastic and graphics.
Retail prices for the 1995 Huskys have not been set. but rumors suggest price reductions across the line.
