ZX-6R DETAILS, DETAILS, DETAILS
ROUND UP
ALL THE NUMBERS are in on the new ZX-6R, and they make a decent case for Kawasaki’s claim that the 6R will achieve class superiority.
If that contention is correct, it further supports the notion that you get what you pay for.
The 6R retails for $7899, $800 more than the ZX-6.
For the extra money, you get another 5 claimed horsepower through a host of engine refinements, and a claimed dry weight of 401 pounds, which is 29 pounds lighter than the ZX-6.
More than half the weight reduction comes from the engine, which weighs 16.5 pounds less than the ZX-6’s powerplant, says Kawasaki. Weight decreases were achieved through use of a new crank, cam drive, gearbox and exhaust system.
Also new and light is the 6R s
aluminum one-piece frame, down 6.6 pounds from the 6’s unit, according to Kawasaki. The clutch, gearbox and shifter assemblies weigh a total of 2.2 pounds less than those of the ZX-6, adds the company.
All of this comes in a slightly shorter package. The 6R has a 55.7-inch wheelbase, .6-inch shorter than that of the ZX-6.
