HONDA SUPERBIKE SET TO GO

BY THE TIME YOU READ this the Honda RC45 will have replaced the much-admired RC30 racebike. Well, probably.

The bike-known in the media as the RC50 but renamed to reflect the fact that its 750cc engine capacity translates to 45 cubic inches-was scheduled for introduction July 25 at the Suzuka 8-Hours. And if that target is for some reason discarded, the street-legal version of the bike is scheduled to be shown at the Tokyo Motor Show in late October.

The 140-horsepower machine is based on Honda’s super-trick RVF750 and is intended to compete, both on the racetrack and in the showroom, with the latest 750 superbikes. It is expected to use a narrow-angle V-Four with fuel injection and gear-driven cams. Also expected are a single-sided swingarm and sixpiston front brake calipers.

Asked for confirmation of the RC45’s introduction dates, an American Honda spokesperson said, “We have no comment and no knowledge of any of this.”
