Fans, friends and foes

I get a lot of motorcycle magazines. For my money, you guys are the cream of the crop. The best. Keep up the outstanding work. Dana Shay Sturgis, South Dakota I wish to get better value for my money than you now give me. Your writers are immature and out of touch with the real world. You stooge for the Japanese manufacturers and all I get is high praise for every model they build.

Art Rhoads, Jr.

Jacksonville, Florida

Thanks for producing the most balanced motorcycle magazine. I have been riding 25 years and really appreciate your effort to showcase the European bikes.

Bill Thomas Omaha, Nebraska

While your magazine is a fairly good one, I would hesitate to subscribe again.

Chris McKeown Rapid City, South Dakota

Keep up the good work. I won’t even cancel my subscription.

Cowboy Mike Arwiaca, Arizona

Thanks Cowboy, we need all the help we can get, especially in Arwiaca.

Watt you say?

While reading your story on the KTM 600 LC4 in the June issue, I

noticed an error. You wrote, ‘An SEM ignition furnishes 130 watts of current to power lights.” As an electronics engineering student, I find this an outrage. A watt is a unit of power, not current. It would be like saying, “I’ll take 13 yards of gasoline, please,” to a pump jockey at the corner station.

Normally, I would recommend having your tech editor taken out and shot, but after looking at your staff lineup, I noticed you don't have one. I hereby offer my services. In any case, I will consider your sending me a 1987 VFR700 Interceptor (all white, thank you) an ample apology.

Tim Streisel Festus, Montana

You are absolutely right, Tim, an ampere is a unit of current, not a watt. So, your Interceptor will be in the mail

as soon as we figure out how to mount the optional 13-yard gas tank.

Hurricane insurance

It seems that now the insurance industry has lost the first battle (the Danforth Bill), they’re ready to come after us again.

I recently purchased a Honda CBR1000 Hurricane and was then told by State Farm that they would not insure it. Having motor vehicle insurance is required here by law, and by refusing insurance, this company has effectively banned sportbikes. I understand that State Farm is not the only insurance company that has come up yvith this policy.

The insurance industry is very big and powerful. However, maybe if we motorcyclists band together, the way we did with Danforth, and express our displeasure with these new practices, the insurance companies might review these rules, taking into consideration rider age, experience and driving record instead of just the type of vehicle.
