Lost Lake Lodge

Brainerd, Minnesota

EACH SUMMER, BRAINERD International Raceway plays host to numerous motorcycle roadraces as well as the NHRA Northstar National drag races. But, since Brainerd is also the center of Minnesota’s lake vacation area, quality rooms are usually at a premium. Race fans should fear not, though, because just a few miles north of the track, away from the noise of unmuffled engines, is the Lost Lake Lodge.

Minnesota’s smallest American plan resort, the lodge nestles in the pines

on bluffs overlooking Lost Lake. Family owned and operated, the charming, 14-acre resort features two small lakes surrounded by 15 cabins and a large communal restaurant. Meals are served

twice daily, each dish prepared by chef Kieran Moore. He offers three light entrees each evening, presented in a tasteful yet unpretentious fashion. The delicious, fresh-baked breads are

made with flour ground at the Lost Lake grist mill.

Day hikes around the lake are popular, and rental boats are available at modest fees. Room rates begin at around $50 per person, and reservations—with an advance deposit—are a must. For more information and reservations, write Lost Lake Lodge, 641 5 Lost Lake Road, Lakeshore, Brainerd, MN 56401; or call (218) 963-2618. Oh, and if you want the best lakeside lodging in the area, be sure to request cabin 12—but watch your first step out in the morning. Camron E. Bussard
