LONG DISTANCE STEAMER
George Egloff fired up his Honda CBX in a garage in Freeport, Long Island at 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 and headed west. Two days later, actually 49 hours and 58 min., he pulled into the Emeryville Holiday Inn outside San Francisco, having traveled 3061 mi.
The ride was part of the third annual U.S. Express cross-country road rally, a
successor to the Cannonball Baker unofficial road race. Egloff averaged 60 mph for the entire trip, with stops only for gas and a two hour rest break during the trip. He has competed in all three of the U.S. Express rallys. This is the quickest anyone has crossed the United States from New York to San Francisco on two wheels. SI
