HONDA MOTORCYCLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, by American Honda Motors Co., Inc., P.O. Box 50, 100 West Alondra Blvd., Gardena, Ca., 90247, $2.95, 8½ x 11 in., 64 pp.

If you thought I sounded enthusiastic about Honda's Carburetion Manual, wait until you hear about the new (1977) Honda Electrical Manual. Everything I said about the earlier manual holds true in terms of clarity of description and excellent illustrations but the electrical manual shows many test hook-ups and procedures that can be done in the home shop-even hints on where to pick up inexpensive test components.

The manual begins with a chapter on the basic principles of electricity and magnets and goes on to cover a.c. generators, rectifiers, solid state current limiters, batteries. ignition systems (battery, magneto, and solid state), electrical starters, lighting systems, horns, and even fuel gauges and cooling fans. Yes. Gold Wing owners, your bikes are included as well.

Like the carburetion manual, this work ends with a trouble-shooting chart that will benefit owners of makes other than Honda. The entire manual, as a matter of fact, can be used to great advantage by owners of other makes.

My own feeling about this manual, if you hadn't already guessed, can be seen in my ordering 24 copies for the motorcycle mechanics course I teach at the local junior college.

See your local Honda dealer for a copy.
