SUZUKI'S MX RACING PLAN

Suzuki has decided to make full entries in both 250cc and 500cc world championship motocross this year with a powerful team consisting of reigning champion Joel Robert, Sylvain Geboers and Gaston Rahier for 250cc rounds, and reigning champion Roger DeCoster for 500cc rounds.

In addition, Suzuki intends to enter the newly marketed production model TM 125 for the 125cc FIM Prize MX this year. The machine or machines will be ridden by one or more selected European riders (names unknown yet). When the FIM Prize MX obtains the status of the world championship, Suzuki will contract some riders who have taken part in this year’s Prize events. In some cases, a Japanese rider may ride for Suzuki this year (likely, senior class rider K. Masuda), in the Prize or Championship events for the first rounds of the series.

TM 250 AND TM 125

Suzuki’s production motocrosser, the 250, has recently made its fresh market debut with several noteworthy improvements. The modified version features closer ratios for 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, and the fuel tank has been made more similar to that of the works RH 72 machine in appearance.

The TM 125 is a brand-new model. Specifications for both follow.

THE YAMAHA APPROACH

Yamaha’s exciting, lightweight production motocrosser, the MX 250 has been unveiled for motocross enthusiasts across the world.

The model has been developed from works machines which won the ’72 national championship, and performed excellently in the world championship events as well. Main technical features are Yamaha-exclusive Torque Induction engine for higher performance at low to medium rpm, center-up muffler and thermal flow system-equipped rear shocks for more reliable handling, and CDI magneto ignition, permitting easier maintenance.

YAMAHA AUTOMATIC "V" SERIES

Yamaha’s popular ultra-lightweight “V” series has also been modified. The new series consists of four versions, namely, V50A, V50AB, V70A and V70AB. The A version is equipped with a carrier, and the AB version with a trunk.

The most notable technical feature is a newly developed automatic two-speed centrifugal clutch transmission, which proves advantageous for riding through congested urban traffic.

Torque at low speed has been also improved.

THE "ZIPPY"

Intending to exploit entirely new segments of the market, Yamaha has recently introduced its unique mini leisure bike, the “Zippy.”

Focus is on “riding comfort” as represented by the large-size front wheel, and the wide rear tire. Performance is sporty as well.
