Miniature Motorcycle Masterpieces

Or, We Thought It Was Going To Be Easy!

Joe Parkhurst

WHEN REVELL, one of the largest makers of motorcycle, automobile, airplane, etc. models, asked me to help judge a contest they were conducting with Kawasaki Motors, I readily agreed. It seemed like an easy enough task. Look at a few models. Comment. Spend a little time on behalf of two good CYCLE WORLD advertisers. Have a nice lunch, a few drinks, see some people I liked.

Little did I know that Reveil had over 10,000 entries in the contest. And I never envisioned incredible little jewels like so many of them were.

It took two long days to carefully examine each and every entry, rate them for workmanship, finish, paint and decals, originality of design, use of all standard kit parts, practicality, etc.-a mind-boggling task. No simple approach could be devised. Each had to be judged individually, carefully and analytically. We finally reduced the competition to 300 finalists, and reviewed them again. At the finish each of my fellow judges and I felt we had done a fair and reasonable job for Reveil. We show you here only a handful of the total...but what a handful!

Kawasaki models and several forms of merchandise were awarded to the winners. Categories were established for two age groups as well as for customs, competition, road bikes, etc. Reveil has yet another contest going on right now and plans on repeating the motorcycle model contest later this year.
