A Homemade Victory at Barcelona
DERBI AND Bultaco enjoyed a measure of success that was more than satisfactory to a partisan crowd at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. Salvador Canellas and Ginger Molloy managed a one-two sweep in the 125-cc race, while Derbi machinery placed 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th in the 50-cc event. World champions Phil Read (Yamaha) and Giacomo Agostini (MV) were winners in the 250 and 500 class races, respectively.
Canellas gained his 125 victory when Yamaha challengers Read and Bill Ivy retired with crankshaft disintegration difficulties. In the 250 event, only Heinz Rosner (MZ) was able to offer competition to Read.
In the 500, Molloy, on a works 360 Bultaco, delighted the crowd by touring in 3rd position until, with only a quarter of the distance to go, he was forced to pit with a broken gear selector mechanism. Jack Findlay (Mclntyre Matchless) was runner-up in the 500, almost a full minute behind Agostini.
Hans Georg Anscheidt (Suzuki) was winner in the 50, in a close finish over Angel Nieto.
