CROCKER SHOCKER

No big deal seeing a classic Crocker V-Twin at a bike show. Built between 1936-42, they’re among the most collectible of early American motorcycles, trading for $200,000-plus. It was a shock, though, to see this Crocker C4 concept sportbike rolled out at the recent Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d’Elegance. It’s the creation of Toronto-based Crocker Motorcycle Company, which has been making reproduction parts for the old models since 1997, and soon plans to have complete, ready-to-assemble replica kitbikes for sale. The all-new C4, being developed for 2009 production, represents, “What AI Crocker might be building today,” says chief designer Daryl Tearne, noting that the mono-strut front suspension is patterned after aircraft landing gear. The mockup motor shows pushrods but the final version may be a belt-driven ohc design. Displacement will be between 1350 and 1500cc, with 125 hp as the target.
