DOWN: To us, for getting it wrong, and to the Texas legislature fornot passing house bill 1522 that would have made motorcycle lanesharing legal in the Lone Star State. In January, we said the bill passed, but that wasn't true, and splitting lanes remains illegal. "A representa tive introduced this bill without giv ing us any indication it was com ing," said Sputnik (his legal name), chairman of the Texas Motorcycle Rights Association, who has the word "free" tattooed, no lie, on his forehead. "It was done out of the clear blue sky. We didn't have time to consider that bill, and if we don't get on board with motorcycle legis lation in Texas, it doesn't go any where. We had other issues that were more important at that time." Will lane-sharing be legal anytime soon? "The soonest it can happen is the next legislative session in January of 2007," Mr. Sputnik says.
