101 Sportbike Performance Projects

THE CW LIBRARY

Written for sportbike owners who aren't afraid of getting a little grease under their fingernails, 101 Sportbike Performance Projects is a do-it-yourself reference manual worthy of a place on any garage mechanic’s shelf.

The 256-page volume, authored by journeyman moto-joumalist Evans Brasfield, covers topics ranging from general maintenance to performance modifications, such as installing a nitrous-oxide system. The book is logically organized into seven sections, making it easy to locate projects pertaining to, say, suspension, chassis or brakes.

The largest portion is dedicated to engines, with much attention paid to carburetion, fuelinjection, exhaust and ignition.

Each project is detailed in a user-friendly format that begins with an information box including estimated time to complete the job, parts and tools required, difficulty rating, projected cost, a special tip and the expected performance gain. Brasfield has done a good job relating the steps involved in layman’s terms. The author also offers advice on potential pitfalls that can quickly tum a simple task into an unexpected project itself. Color detail photos are used throughout to illustrate the task at hand and serve well to paint a clear picture even if your bike is not the same as that used in the photo.

101 Sportbike Performance Projects is meant to cover a broad range of makes and models. And while your particular model may not be specifically addressed, think of the book as an addendum to your shop manual, full of ideas that can help you develop a more hands-on relationship with your prized sportbike.
