Alcohol continues to play a prominent role in motorcycle crashes. According to NHTSA, 41 percent of the 1369 motorcyclists who died in single-vehicle accidents in 2001 (the most recent year results are available) were intoxicated. What’s more, motorcyclists involved in fatal crashes had higher blood-alcohol levels than any
other type of driver. In an effort to reduce these numbers,
NHTSA is partnering with the AMA to educate motorcyclists about the
dangers of drinking and riding. “My years in law enforcement have shown me that alcohol and motorcycles are a deadly combination,” said NHTSA Deputy Administrator Annette Sandberg. For more information, log on to www.amadirectlink.org.
