Milwaukee Electric Screwdriver Kit
CW EVALUATION
The miracle of electricity comes to screwdrivers
USING THE MILWAUKEE ELECTRIC Tools 2.4-volt rechargeable screwdriver is like being freed of a great burden. Remember switching to a motorcycle from a bicycle? It’s a bit like that
There are many others available, but this is one of the nicer examples of the cordless screwdriver breed. It features dual-speed, reversible operation (200 or 400 rpm), dial-adjustable torque settings (six positions, from 3.5 to 26 inch-pounds) and a pivoting handle. All in a plastic carrying case.
Of similar devices found at the local toolshop, the Milwaukee piece was more expensive than most, but it offers more features and build quality is noticeably higher. Both Phillips and flat-head bits are included in the charger-mounted holder. Power is good, as is screwing speed. Machine screws are zapped right out, and if you adjust the clutch to its highest setting, it is possible to drive wood screws into pine wall studs.
The world expands when the tool is coupled with a 'A-inch socket-drive adapter, as it suddenly replaces not only screwdrivers, but also T-handle wrenches-a clutch cover never came off so quickly. There is even a drill-chuck attachment for light-duty drilling.
Charge time is about 1 hour, and the driver gives good warning as the juice wanes-torque decreases, but plenty of “fastener cycles” remain.
Okay, so $100 is a lot of money for a screwdriver, but if it isn’t already clear, this is a lot more than just a screwdriver. □
