GUZZI MAKES GOOD
No, Moto Guzzi will not build the Munich show-stopper MGS/01 and Griso-not yet, at least. The Italian outfit will, however, put the Breva V750 I.E. into production-and it’s coming to the USA. The standard-style machine is powered by a 744cc version of Guzzi’s classic air-cooled 90-degree V-Twin. Claimed output is 48 horsepower at 6600 rpm, with 44 foot-pounds of torque at 3000 rpm. Dry weight is 401 pounds. Price will be under $7500.
DUCATI’S NEW SUPERBIKE
Former World Superbike Champion Troy Bayliss has a new ride-and it’s a bicycle! The aluminum-and-carbon-fiber-framed roadbike will be built for Ducati Corse by legendary bike-maker (and former motorcycle manufacturer) Bianchi. Neat thing is, Bayliss won’t be the only one astride the $5400 “pushy;” 200 examples will be produced, each numbered, accompanied by a letter of authenticity and featuring the buyer’s signature on the top tube. Bayliss, who competed in two Italian cycling “classics” last summer, was jazzed. “I think if I weren’t racing motorbikes, I would somehow be chasing a contract in Pro cycling,” he said. BELL’S BACK
Bell Sports has acquired the North American rights to Bell motorcycle helmets and accessories from Italy’s Bieffe. Bell is credited with inventing the full-face helmet, and was the first company to employ protective expanded polystyrene liners-now the industry standard. Bell Powersports (www.bellsports.com) will manage the one-time market leader.
NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE...
Looking to provoke pandemonium in the pits? Then contact Umbrella Girls USA, a new modeling agency catering exclusively to bike and car racers. “While they are very attractive, Umbrella Girls are more than eyecandy at the raceway,” says Ann Asiano, company founder and a partner at Ducati-Triumph-Yamaha of Marin. “They have an advanced knowledge of racing, and truly understand the products and services they are promoting.” For more information, go to www.umbrellagirlsusa.com.
GOING, GOING, GONE...
Two-stroke trailbikes are on their way out come 2006, says the Environmental Protection Agency. Motocrossers won’t be affected, and the EPA has left the door open for a new breed of “certified competition machines,” which could be used for both racing and trail riding.
