UP: To Brits Jim Doyly and Tom Hurst, for righting a wrong. When Doyly couldn’t sell his BSA in 1964, he opted to bury it-complete with sidecar-in his garden. Decades later, when Doyly decided to lay a new patio, he remembered the old bike and asked his friend to help him unearth it. Unfortunately, Doyly died before the restoration was complete. “He would have been very proud of the bike now,” said the 72-year-old Hurst. “I just wish he were here to see it.”

DOWN: To the makers of the “Berm Busters 2003” calendar, for their lousy editing. Hey, we can understand Honda factory rider Ricky Carmichael playing second fiddle to bikini-togged twins Sandy and Amanda Bentley, but misidentifying him as “Rickey’’-not once, not twice, but three times!—is inexcusable. C’mon guys, he’s only an eight-time AMA Supercross and outdoor Motocross champ, and the first person ever to go undefeated for an entire season!

UP: To the performance junkies at Yoshimura Japan, for their mouth-watering Tornado S-1 handbook. Chock full of beautiful photography, retrospectives, riding impressions and of course, high-performance products for the Suzuki Hayabusa-based machine, it’s all catalogued in a heavy-stock, magazine-style format. Shame most of it is written in Japanese...
