Ups & Downs
ROUNDUP
UP: To Eddie Lawson, for proving he's still the best. The four-time 500cc world champion recently com-peted in the World SuperKart Chal-lenge at Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey, California, and topped an international field that included none other than close friend and three-time 500cc World Champion Wayne Rainey. "Eddie annihilated 'em," Rainey told reporters afterward.
DOWN: To Daemond Rogan, for using Chicago's Lake Shore Drive as his per sonal top-speed site. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the 32-year-old "free-spirited, freelance computer tech nician and repairman" may have estab lished a city speeding record when he was allegedly clocked at 160 mph on his 1999 Honda CBR600F4. Rogan was arrested and cited for speeding, running a red light and weaving.
UP: To Haney-Davidson and the Mil waukee Brewers, for combining Ameri ca's great summer pastimes-baseball and motorcycling. As part of an adver tising package at Miller Park, the Brew ers' new home, fans are treated to the sight and sound of a Road King making a quarter-mile lap of the warning track each time the home team changes pitch ers in the middle of an inning. The bike is dden by Motor Company employees or its special guests, or by a member of the Brewers ground crew. It's the sixth sea son for the promotion, which started in 1996 when Harley provided an Electra Glide with a sidecar to ferry relief pitch ers from the bullpen. Last season, the Haney made 128 appearances, including a lap by former Brewer and avid rider Robin Yount du~ng the last game at Mil waukee County Stadium. Sadly, dirt track-style slides and donuts around home plate are strongly discouraged.
