NEWSFLASH: REIGNING WORLD SUPERbike Champion Carl Fogarty is sidelined due to injury, leaving an open seat on the works Ducati team. The question is, do you have what it takes to fill in for King Carl? Granted, the chances of landing a factory ride are slim to none. But Foggy’s bike can be virtually yours in EA Sports’ Superbike 2000.
The Windows 95/98 computer game is based on the 1999 WSB season, and offers 20 familiar riders, six brands of motorcycles and 13 racetracks from which to choose. Chassis tuning is a factor as well, with suspension, gearing and tire compounds to be sorted out. Eight different player perspectives are available, and these can even be switched on the fly.
Staffers who have actually ridden several of the circuits in the game were amazed by the accuracy and attention to graphic detail in the tracks and surrounding landscaping. Superbike 2000 also delivers a realistic feeling of speed, rather than the over-exaggerated onrush of scenery so common in arcade-style games.

After several hours of play, with maximum realism settings, we decided a real Superbike is much easier to handle. Luckily, the game offers several degrees of rider assistance that can be adjusted to ease the learning curve and help keep you on track.
While rider error won’t cost you any skin, EA’s Superbike 2000 will certainly make your palms sweat.
