CW EVALUATION

It’s what’s underneath that counts

IN TERMS OF COMFORT, WHAT YOU WEAR under your riding gear can prove a critical addition to your wardrobe. Oakley’s new long-sleeve undershirt can make nearly any protective garment more pleasant to wear.

Called the Polypro Jersey, it is made almost entirely (92 percent) of polypropylene, a silken synthetic fabric commonly used in ski socks, among other products. This fiber appears in two forms in the Polypro, as a napped inner linerthink soft and almost fuzzy-and as a smooth, slick outer surface.

Too warm for summer use A little on the spendy side

It is combined with Spandex to help maintain the pullover’s shape. The result is an ultracomfy jersey that’s soft against the skin, yet that presents a lowfriction surface toward riding gear. A short, YKK zipper snugs up the lined collar, turtleneck-style.

In action under a leather jacket or full leathers, the U.S.-made Polypro provides a perfect layer of light insulation against the chill from a morning or evening ride. What’s more, the sleek material and flattened seams prevent chafing or binding as you move around on the motorcycle.

Available in men’s sizes S-XXL, it comes only in black. But it’s goodlooking enough for any post-ride restaurant. While the Polypro’s insulation makes it a bit warm for long, hot summers, few articles are as comfortable to slip on during cooler seasons. □
