KATOOM FOR KIDDIES

FOR MINIBIKE RACERS who have outgrown the entry-level 50cc class, KTM offers the 65 SX. Physically taller and with more suspension travel than the class-standard Kawasaki KX6O, the bike is powered by a liquid-cooled, 63.5cc, case-reed-induction, two-stroke Single. The engine is built in Italy by Beta, using cases based on KTM's bygone 80 MX. Suspension is by Paioli, and there's 11 inches of ground clearance. The SX also boasts a hydraulic disc front brake, whereas the Kawasaki is equipped with cable-actuated drums at both ends. Suggested retail price is $2798, $579 more than the Kawi.
