PURCHASE INCENTIVES

Buyin’ a new bike? If so, you might want to consider these incentive programs from Honda and Kawasaki. Take home a Magna or Shadow (excluding VLX600 Deluxe), for example, and Honda will kick in a DirectTV mini-dish satellite system plus six months of free, Platinum-level programing. Opt instead for a CR125 or CR250 motocrosser, and it’s a Craftsman Pro Series rollaway tool chest. Kawasaki, meanwhile, is tempting Vulcan 1500 Classic buyers with a casual jacket and a year’s supply of gasoline. What about those new, mean green sportbikes, you ask? Well, the ZX-6R comes with an MDS Eagle Stream helmet, and ZX-9R buyers get a Tech-Sport riding jacket and commemorative key fob. Both programs are good through May 31,1998.

RECALL UPDATE

If your 1996-97 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic stalls or backfires through the carburetor when the engine is cold, have your dealer install the factory Carburetor Warmer Kit. Some examples may also require new exhaust valves and hotter sparkplugs. A separate recall has been issued on fourth gear. Specifically, the dog engagement holes on some Vulcan 1500s may be unevenly spaced, which could lead to broken gear dogs.

Suzuki, meanwhile, is recalling all 1998 RM125s. The cause? Apparently, a batch of footpeg mounts was not properly heat treated. Dealers will inspect the mounts and, if necessary, arrange for gusseting or heat treatment.
