25 YEARS AGO APRIL, 1973

Never a magazine to shy away from digging up the dirt, CW previewed the 125 Can-Am in this issue. An offroad prototype built by snowmobile manufacturer Bombardier, the bike featured a unique approach to rotary-valve two-stroke engine design-its carburetor was conventionally located behind the engine rather than off to the side as was usual with rotary-valvers. R&D was credited to former World Motocross Champion and current AHRMA Executive Director Jeff Smith.

• Meanwhile, a special sidecar feature comprised a trio of articles that provided insight into dealing with a third wheel. Readers interest ed in "A Little Something on the Side," could tap into where to buy a sidecar, while those committed to exploring the niche further could get the ins and outs of being a side carist with "Legality And The Hack" and the "Principles of Rigging."

• Like many aspects of motor cycling in the early `70s, minibike racing was experiencing a huge growth spurt. This was covered in an article titled "Mini Grand Prix," and in the magazine's Racing Review sec flon, which detailed 11-year-old Jeff Ward's big win at the East Coast Minibike Nationals. Current CW con tributing photographer Dave was also listed with three class wins. Just goes to show, it's never too early to start making a name fort yourself in this sport

• Speaking of making a name for yourself, this issue's coverboy should look familiar. Indeed, striking an Atlas like pose is none other than current Road & Track Editor Thos Bryant.
