DIRT-CHEAP DIRT-TRACKER
HAVE YOU GOT AN ITCH to try your hand at 600cc flat-tracking, but the thought of shelling out $11,000 for a brand-new Wood-Rotax leaves you feeling a little, er, flat? Then ATK’s new production roundy-round racer should be right up your alley. Powered by essentially the same air-cooled, four-valve Rotax Single that propels Ron Wood’s proven performers, the ATK is expected to sell for a mere $8495 ($8995 for a projected electric-start street version) with the initial production run of 100 examples scheduled to be available by June or July. Based on ATK’s off-road four-strokes, the dirt-tracker features revised frame geometry, an adjustable-length swingarm, reversible knockoff hubs laced to 19-inch wheels shod with Goodyear dirt-track tires, a WP fork and single shock, and AMA-mandated rubber footpegs. Of course, the bike is as yet unproven, but with AMA Grand National Championship competitors Will Davis and Kevin Atherton of Total Control Racing helping with development, it might not be long before an ATK finds its way into the winner’s circle.
