DAYTONA USA
JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT America had enough theme parks, along comes one that's actually worth going to. Daytona USA, located adjacent to Turn 4 of the famed superspeedway, is billed as "The Ultimate Motorsports Attraction." The 50,000-square-foot building offers an inside look at Daytona history, and showcases the color and pageantry of motorsports through a variety of films, shows and interactive multi-media displays.
After entering through repro ductions of the speedway's twin infield tunnels, guests view the Heritage of Daytona film and another 14-minute movie high lighting the closest-ever Daytona 500 finishes in thundering surround-sound.
Interactive sights include: "Heroes of the Track," where eight popular laser disc-pro grammed drivers talk back to visitors; the "Pit Stop Chal lenge," where audience mem bers watch a live pit stop and then try to beat the pros' times; and a karaoke-style "You Broadcast the Race" booth. As you'd expect, numerous race vehicles are on display,
among them Doug Chandler's Muzzy Kawasaki Superbike, Miguel Duhamel's AMA Super sport Championship-winning Honda CBR600F3, Chris Carr's Harley-Davidson VRI000 and Bob Hannah's works Honda RC250 motocrosser.
All this is topped off with a tour of Daytona's paddock, pit road and awe-inspiring 3 1-de gree banking.
