QUICKEST STREETBIKE SHOOTOUT II
Back by popular demand is the Cycle World Quickest Streetbike Shootout (see Roundup, January, 1996), to be held in conjunction with the AMA Prostar drag race at Indianapolis Raceway Park on August 16-18. This year's entries must be street legal and run on DOT-approved street tires, yet can have an infinite number of internal engine modifications. To qualify, every bike must complete a 25-mile ride on IRP's road course and make it through the preliminary elimination rounds. The shootout now features four classes: Unlimited for turbo and nitrous bikes; Modified, which prohibits puffer and laughing-gas machines; Stock for normally aspirated
machines; and Unlimited Harley for-you guessed it-radical American V-Twins.
Kent Stotz (shown) won last year's event with an 8.36-second/i 70-mph pass on a tur bocharged and fuel-injected Suzuki GSX R1100. He promptly sold the bike and started over from scratch to come up with a quicker mount to ride in this year’s showdown. Competitors, be forewarned!
