TROY LEE, KING OF CUSTOM-PAINTED helmets, has a secret weapon—and now he wants to let you in on it.

It’s called Max Wax Shiny Sauce, a Carnuba-based cleaner/wax brewed up by—Lee’s words, not ours-the “mad scientists” at Mr. Moto Products especially for polyurethane paint. For years, every custom-sprayed skid lid passing through Troy Lee Designs (1821 Wild Turkey Circle, Corona, CA 91720; 909/371-5219) has been buffed out with Max Wax before shipping. Now, Lee is selling the stuff through motorcycle shops, priced at $9 for 8 ounces.

Yes, that’s expensive (about twice the cost of other premium brand-name cleaner/'waxes) so you probably don't want to Max Wax your entire motorcycle, but as you'd expect, the product works exceptionally well on helmets, custom-painted or otherwise. Applied with a dry cloth, Max Wax makes quick work of road grime, bug splatter and small surface scratches, then can be immediately buffed to a high sheen.

So. even if you can't afford a Troy Lee paint job just yet. at least you can have his secret shine. □
