More than polish
LET'S FACE IT: CLEANING YOUR MOTORcycle is not nearly as fun as riding it. Still, most riders prefer a shiny, wellwaxed bike, and thanks to a variety of new spray-and-wipe cleaners/waxes, quick-and-easy solutions are available. S100 Detail+Wax is an excellent example. Designed by the makers of a line of motorcycle cleaners and finishcare products, it is billed as a one-step care system, providing touch-up cleaning and shine enhancement between major washings, or for adding a protective finish after a thorough cleaning.
S100 is easy enough to apply: .lust spray on a cool, dry surface, wait about a minute and rub with a soft cloth. (Tires, footpegs, brake rotors and such should be avoided.) In use, the spray effectively removed bugs, rain spots, road dust and chain lube, leaving a clean, shiny surface. When applied after a comprehensive washing, S 100's beeswax and carimba formula provided extra shine, leaving as glossy and hard a finish as many paste waxes, but without any residue.
Trouble is, at $7.95 for a 10-ounce can, S100 (available at motorcycle shops through Brookside Import Specialties, 550 E. Main Street. Branford CT 06405; 203/488-6569) has a glossy price, too. But though a trifle expensive. it is handy and highly effective, especially for those times when you want to get rid of bugs and road dust and there’s no hose to be found or you don't want to fuss with paste waxes.
Still. S 100's makers don't claim Detail+Wax is a substitute for an old-fashioned soap-and-water cleaning. Even in this modern age of spray-and-wipe solutions. elbow grease is still a required additive for a clean motorcycle.
