IN THE WAR OF MOTORCYCLE COFFEE-table books, off-road riders needn't feel left out. One of the nicer large-format, hardcover moto-books currently available is Off Road Champions, a stunning, all-color annual authored by Italian photojournalist Dario Agrati.
Agrati knows dirt. For nearly two decades, he has chased the international off-road scene, capturing the spirit and the excitement of world-championship enduros, rallies and various other otf-road events. In recent years, he has compiled his previous season’s work in an annual publication filled with compelling images ranging from in-your-face action that practically
leaps off the pages to artsy close-ups to portraits and group shots that often are candid almost to a fault.
Agrati’s latest book covers each round of the 1994 Enduro World Championship, followed by profiles of the champions in that series’ four displacement classes (125, 250, 350 and 500cc). Other sections are dedicated to the International Six Days Enduro, plus various rallies-including the Elba 500, the Nevada Rally and the Gilles Lalay Classicand specialty events such as the 12 Hours of Lignano, an exciting team beach race in Italy. Agrati finishes with a comprehensive results listing for all the events covered in the book.
Off Road Champions is available in extremely limited quantity (only 60 to 70 copies) from its U.S. importer, Davide Troili. Although its focus is on European off-road championships and
riders, this book is worth every cent of its $50 suggested retail price, even if your twowheel endeavors have never landed you in victory circle. □
