PRO HONDA SPRAY CLEANER & POLISH
CW EVALUATION
Quick clean-up without water
CALL THE CONSUMER-AFFAIRS PEOPLE, we thought; just wait ’til the truth-inadvertising folks get a hold of this one. Honda’s new cleaner-polish comes in a 14-ounce spray can that’s plastered with claims of the product’s ability to quickly clean, polish and protect an entire motorcycle, from paint to plastic to chrome. Quite frankly, we doubted the chemical’s ability to do all of these things..
Armed with a can of Fro Honda Spray & Polish and a few soft cloths, we marched out to the Cycle World shop for some in-the-field testing. A black, road-stained Suzuki Katana became the first lab rat. We applied a liberal dose of the cleaner-polish to the Katana's fuel tank, spread it around with a towel, then buffed it clean. In less than a minute the tank was clean and glossy, its paint richer and deeper looking.
A bug-splattered Gold Wing was nearby, chock full of plastic and vinyl parts. Without a lot of buffing. the Fro Honda cleaner quickly removed the muck from the windshield and frontal areas of the Wing, leaving the surfaces shiny and smooth. Crash bars, chrome trim and the mufflers also responded well. A shot of Fro Honda to the Gold Wing’s instruments, seat and numerous plastic components, a quick wipe, and those parts were left clean, with a nice, semi-gloss finish.
We tried this cleaner-polish on a couple of our helmets and faceshields with positive results, too. One enterprising editor even cleaned a leather riding suit with the Pro Honda—it took a lot less time than saddle soap, and the outfit came out like new.
While we can't authenticate Honda’s claims that the product blocks ultra-violet rays and reduces fading and cracking, we can confirm that the $3.95-a-can Fro Honda Cleaner & Polish, available at Honda dealers, fulfills the rest of its claims. We just ordered a case of the stuff. E3
