Vintage Ducati roadracers, to go
FEEL THE ITCH TO GO VINTAGE roadracing, but lack the time or mechanical skills to restore a suitable mount for yourself? Well, now there's a way to scratch that itch. Just get in touch with West Coast British Racing (6398 Dougherty Road #34, Dublin, CA 94568: 415/829-0494) and ask about WCBR's "just add gas and go" Ducati vintage roadracers. For $3500 (plus an $800 core charge). you'll get a fully restored Ducati 250 Single, equipped with all the goodies you'll need to be competitive in the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association's 250cc Sportsman class.
Based on the race-winning machines campaigned by WCBR owner Mike Green, the customer version is powered by a modified, 248ec, narrow-case four-stroke Single, with bevel-driven ohc and five-speed gearbox. The chassis is decked-out with clip-on handlebars, rearset footpegs and racing-compound Avon tires, and the customer has his choice of tank and seat styles, and paint scheme. A spares kit. which includes engine and chassis stands, also is available.
If, for you, 25()cc is not the magic engine size, and if your checkbook is up to the job, WCBR also will build roadracers based on 200, 350 or 450ce Ducati Singles, unfaired for Sportsman-class competition, or fully faired so that you can compete in the GB classes, if that's your bag.
Now. if we can just come to grips with the notion of a Britbike shop building race-ready Ducatis, we'll be all set. —Brian Catterson
