THE RIDER VOTE
That various government bodies, federal on down to the local JP, either don't like motorcycles, ignore them or work against two-wheel transportation. isn't news. What motorcycle enthusiasts have in common is enthusiasm for motorcycles. The rest of the time, we act and vote like Democrat or Republican, management or labor, homeowner or renter and so forth. As a result. perhaps. we aren't thought of as a special interest group. like farmers. hunters. manufacturers. professional peo ple. and women are.
Would it make any difference if we were? We may find out. The American Motorcyclist Association has created a political action committee, a six-man board comprised of AMA staff and members. The group’s job will be to raise and distribute funds for Congressional candidates. The money w ill go not to members of this or that party, but to candidates who will listen to or work with motorcyclists.
