CLARIFICATION
The men at Koni have called us to account on the technical description of their product, as it appeared in our May issue.
Two points. One was simply in error. We said the Koni is of single wall construction. It is double wall. No excuse for that.
The second point is more a matter of words. The text described the Koni as externally adjustable. Koni doesn’t agree. The question involves a unique Koni feature. With shock off the bike and spring removed, the owner can twist the shock body and adjust damping or compensate for wear.
We considered that to be an adjustment, because most shocks must be dismantled and the valves replaced or modified if you wish to adjust the damping.
Koni also builds shocks for cars. Their shocks fitted to Grand Prix racing cars can be adjusted while in place, via an outside control. This, says Koni, is what we consider an external adjustment. We’ll accept their meaning of the words. g]
