K&G FRAME MODIFICATION

For desert and motocross riders concerned with handling problems on their machines, K&G Engineering will perform frame modifications to extend the wheelbase, and lower the center of gravity. K&G requires only the stripped frame for their engine lowering, wheel spacing treatment. Initially, the procedure is to slide the frame in two, just above the swinging arm. Then steel inserts are welded in place, lowering the engine cradle and swinging arm pivot in relation to the rest of the bike. Two new cross braces and several gussets are added to make the frame more rigid than the original. The steel spacing slugs are welded both at the outside joint and at the ends for added strength. The end result yields a 1-in.-lower engine, a wheelbase stretched about an inch and a swinging arm parallel to the ground under normal load. No further modifications are necessary to compensate for the initial modifications performed. For Yamaha DT-1s and RT-1s, the cost of this treatment is $49.95; it varies slightly more or less for other bikes. Some models of Kawasaki and Suzuki can also benefit from the modifications. For further information, contact K&G Engineering, Dept. CW-1 1, 2353 San Fernando Rd., Los Angeles, CA 90065.

QUICK DRAIN CARB VALVE

A Quick Drain Valve, designed and engineered for Yamaha and Hodaka motorcycles, is available which is claimed to clear a flooded engine in seconds. With this product installed, it is only necessary to shut off the petcock at the gas tank, depress the Quick Drain

Valve until the float bowl is empty, and kick the machine over. Total time: approximately 10 sec., instead of the possible 10 min. or longer. After washing your motorcycle, should water or some other foreign material get into the bowl, just depressing the valve with the petcock on at the gas tank will flush out the water and what other matter is stuck in the bowl. If your motorcycle is being stored, clogged jets due to residue build-up can be prevented by shutting off the petcock at the tank, depressing the valve, and removing any gas left in the bowl. For quick jet changes, shut off the petcock at the tank, depress the valve and remove any gas left in the bowl; this eliminates the problem of having gas run all over the engine during these changes. Composition of the valve is precision machined brass with cadmium plating. It is equipped with a special oil and gasoline-resistant O-ring. Should the O-ring wear out over a 3to 4-year period, a stop clip is built into the valve to prevent the mechanism from flying out. The O-ring can easily be replaced for just a few cents. The BBP-001 valve fits the 90-cc, 125-cc and 175-cc Yamaha Enduro and MX models and the Hodaka Super Rat. Price is $5.75. The 250-cc and 360-cc Yamaha Enduro and MX models can be fitted with the BBP-002 valve, priced at $5.95. These valves will also fit any Mikuni carburetor with an external main jet holder. State carburetor size in mm’s when ordering. For additional information, contact Burak-Bye Products, Dept. CW-11,15170 Raymer St., Van Nuys, CA 91405.

REED CAGE ADAPTER MANIFOLD

Hodaka Super Rat owners can opt for a reed cage timing conversion with G.E.M. Products’ new adapter manifold. Claimed improvements resulting from using the adapter, which includes the reed cage and pedals, are cleaner running, more power and flexibility from idle to full throttle. Installation of the adaptor is claimed to give a better overall engine performance because it provides the engine with a more accurate load of fuel under all operating conditions. It is not necessary to replace the stock Super Rat carburetor, although, as with all reed cages, the piston must be drilled ("windowed") on the intake side of the skirt to directly expose the reeds to varying crankcase pressures. Instructions for this, plus all the necessary items to complete the conversion, are included in the $21.95 purchase. For further information, contact G.E.M. Products Inc., Dept. CW-11, 496 E. St. Charles Rd., Carol Stream, IL 60187.
