RACING WITH STYLE

For riders who are tired of showing up at the track in the same, old, one-color black leathers, meet after meet, Tony Llad multi-color racing leathers come in practically any color combination desired. One such set won Bill O’Brian a watch, for being the best-dressed racer at the 10-mile Charity Newsies at Columbus, Ohio last year. Llad, who signs off his correspondence with “Yours in leather,” makes some stylish leather outfits for the woman rider too. One model comes with the bell bottom legs so popular on women’s slacks these days. A complete rundown is available from Tony Llad Leathers, Dept. CW, 911 School Street, Chicago, I11. 60657.

ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENTS

New electronic instruments for motorcycles have been announced by Rite Autotronics Corporation of Los Angeles. Four different types, fully shock mounted. are available, including 1 to 12,000 rpm tachs; head temperature gauges; ammeters; and battery condition indicator.

All RAC instruments have matching die-cast cases in chrome and black crackle finish. They are weather-proof and hooded to deflect rain. All have 2-inch, back-illuminated, easy-reading Lexan dials with steady, silicone-damped pointers. The solid-state electronic circuits require only simple electrical connections to the machine — no cables, linkages or complicated hook-ups are necessary.

Tachometers to fit 1 and 2-cylinder, 2 or 4-cycle machines are priced at $33.50. Ammeters, $17.00; head-temperature gauges in 6 or 12-volt model, $20.00 complete; Bat-Chek gauge, $18.90.

These instruments are available through authorized motorcycle dealers and distributors.

HONDA STROKER KITS

Powroll Performance, Dept. CW, P.O. Box 926, Bend, Oregon 97701, makers of performance kits for Honda 50, 90, 150 and 160s, has just assembled a very descriptive brochure that tells the whole story. Powroll claims up to 75cc displacement by using their stroker kit on the Honda 50 and 55, up to 105cc on the Honda 90, 175cc on the Honda 150, and 190cc by using their kit on the Honda 160. Stroker kits do not use spacers; using a special process they claim to “shrink” the connecting rods, then increase the bore, thereby increasing total displacement. Finished stroker kits are ready to bolt on, no machining required.

Powroll’s high compression “Big-Bore” kits include oversize pistons, rings, and reboring of cylinders. Their stroker kits include stroked crankshaft assembly, cylinder notched for rod clearance, piston skirt cut off to clear flywheels; prices are $34.95 for the 50 and 55 Hondas, and $43.95 for Honda 90. Combination kits of big bore and strokers list at $44.95 and $53.95 for the 50s, $67.95 and $70.95 for the 90s. Full details, including installation and prices can be had by writing.

ANTI-THEFT ALARM

A new company, Robertson Enterprises, is making its debut with a product of great interest to riders who must leave their machines parked in public places. The gadget has the rather cumbersome name of the “Original Cycle Bike Alarm.” It is

adaptable to any motorcycle with battery and horn and the makers say it may be installed easily (and out of sight).

Elite Insurance Company has given this product its exclusive endorsement. Price is $9.95, with money back guarantee. Write to: The Original Cycle Bike Alarm, Dept. CW-7, Box 3163, North Hollywood, California.

ALL-WEATHER GOODIES

Butler and Smith, Inc., the BMW people, are promoting year-round motorcycling with its series of imported leather accessories. Several of these items will be familiar to those who have been in Europe in wintertime. They include leather handlebar-muffs (with or without sheepskin lining) that fit entirely over handlebar controls and serve the double function of keeping hands warm and control cable ends dry.

Other accessories, tailored for BMWs, include tank-top leather pouch; heavy-duty lap apron to shield the rider’s legs, yet permit easy touchdown on stopping; and stylish leather gas tank covers. For additional information, write Butler and Smith, Inc., 160 W. 83rd St., New York, N.Y. 10024.

A home electrical welder costing $51.50 is being marketed by J. C. Whitney & Co. The company says the welder is ideal for home or shop and requires no experience for use. The machine, operating on 110 volt 50/60 cycle AC single phase current, brazes, welds, solders, cuts and pre-heats. It handles 1/16" to 1/8" electrodes on iron, steel, brass or bronze and other metals to 1/2".

The portable machine does both metallic arc and carbon arc welding at 20, 40, 60 and 80 amp settings. It comes with heavy masonite case, head shield, electrode holder, welding cables, ground cables and clamp, power cable, supply of assorted welding and brazing rods, carbons, solder flux and operating instructions. GAS GAUGE FOR BIKES

A Wisconsin firm has come up with an easy answer that should end doubts as to how much gasoline is left lurking under your gas cap. Called the Fuel Minder, the gauge is mounted in a fuel cap, which the rider inserts into the tank and screws shut like the regular gas cap. A complete wrap-around float chamber steadies the fuel reading at all speeds. The Fuel Minder is all-steel constructed and the external cap is finished in chrome.

There are now only two Fuel Minder models available — both for Harley-Davidson. Model L for Electra Glide left tanks, Model S for Electra Glide right and all earlier Harley right and left tanks. Patented styles for other motorcycles are in the making. For more information, write Krome-Krafters, Inc., Dept. C.W., P.O. Box 484, Racine, Wisc., 53401.
