CLYDE EARL

"How DO I GET racing films to show at my club or at home?" This question, asked by people at the CYCLE WORLD Show and in letters to the magazine, is becoming increasingly more frequent. Racing films are harder to come by than "feature" films for several reasons. There have been just so many films produced on the subject of motorcycles and other motor sports; people forget to return them to the distributor; some are lost or stolen. Since 1946 a mere two dozen films have been made; of these only a handful are still available on motorcycles. One of the most popular movies ever made is a picture called "The Right Line." Produced in 1960 for the British Petroleum Com pany, it is available at $7.50 per day from Radim Films Inc., 220 West 42nd Street, New York. N.Y. 10036.

Although many films are 16mm sound, and require an expensive projector to show them, a new, low-cost line of racing films has made its appearance in 8mm. I have just reviewed a complete set of these pic tures and found them of good quality in both subject matter and color. There are three or more brands on the market, but the ones filmed by Dick Wallen are in deed first rate. He can be contacted at Dick Wallen Productions, P.O. Box 796, Arcadia, California 91008 for a catalog of all types of racing films; they sell for $4.95 each.

Additionally, most major motorcycle dis tributors have a list of racing and general information films and will be glad to send you this information without cost. One of the longest and most costly movies ever made on motorcycling is the film by Honda on their four-cylinder racer.

It is very well done in wide screen and color. Harder to obtain (because of too many "lost" films) are the Castrol films; contact your local Castrol oil distributor for more information. The American Motorcycle Association will also furnish a list of films for club viewing; write them at 5030 No. High Street, Columbus, Ohio. If readers have further questions about racing films of any type, please send along a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Clyde Earl, 10619 Felton Avenue, Inglewood, California.
